Summer Reading Adult Book Review: The Triple Package
Book Title: The Triple Package
Author: Chua, Amy
Review: Why do some ethnic groups seem to achieve “the American Dream” more than others? Are there common factors? The authors of this book, one of whom gained fame from writing about “Tiger Moms,” who give their children a hard push into overachieving, say yes. The three factors are “sense of superiority,” “insecurity,” and “impulse control.” The book traces the skyward trajectory of Indian, Chinese, Lebanese, Nigerian, and Mormons, the first four as second-generation achievers. While the authors emphatically affirm that achieving the “American Dream” is not synonymous with happiness, they trace many common factors to ethnic groups who achieve great worldly success.
