Men's Book Discussion for March: Book and a Movie

The Men's Book Discussion had a lot of fun last year with a first for the group, a book and movie combo: The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, and the film based on the book, directed by John Huston and starring Humphrey Bogart. For this year's combination, the group picked Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, and the film loosely adapted from it by director Francis Ford Coppola, Apocalypse Now.

If you haven't participated in one of the Library's discussion groups before, just stop by the Reference Desk and we can get you started. We have borrowed multiple copies of the book Heart of Darkness and DVDs of Apocalypse Now for you to check out. Just read the book and watch the movie in your free time, and then return to the library on Monday, March 16 from 7:00-8:00 p.m., and join in the conversation!

If you would prefer to read an ebook copy of Heart of Darkness, there are several options available to you. Because the book is in the public domain, it is readily available as a free download from a number of sources, including the Roselle Public Library. The following link will take you to the public domain downloads section of our eMediaLibrary service, just type "Heart of Darkness" in the search bar and click the search button: Heart of Darkness at eMediaLibrary.

The eMediaLibrary public domain ebooks are in the ePub format. If you would prefer a Kindle ebook, Heart of Darkness is available free of charge from Amazon: Heart of Darkness at Amazon. Or if you would prefer to choose from a variety of formats, try Heart of Darkness at Project Gutenberg.

Along with our meetings in the library, the Men's Book Discussion has a Goodreads group that supplements our discussions and is a resource where we exchange lots of information about the books and authors we read. For those who don't have time to attend a particular meeting, the Goodreads group provides another opportunity to share your reaction to a book with the rest of the members. If you'd like to join in the online conversation, just visit the RPLD Men's Book Discussion on Goodreads.
