Men's Book Discussion: Empire of the Air
On Monday, April 20th from 7-8:00 p.m. the Men's book discussion will be meeting to discuss Tom Lewis's Empire of the Air. It's a very readable history of the men who invented radio, from the initial scientific theories that made the medium possible, to the development of the national radio networks that held a nation spellbound, bringing news, music, and entertainment into the American home in an exciting new way.
If you'd like to participate, just drop by the Reference Desk and pick up a copy of the book, and show up to the meeting prepared to share your thoughts about what you've read. Along with reading the book, you may want to visit our group's Goodreads page and peruse some of the content we've put there. We've added links to an excellent documentary Ken Burns adapted from the book and a virtual treasure trove of information about the history of radio, including archives of radio programs for you to stream or download.
We hope you'll join us!
