Summer's not over yet!
Summer is the season you start looking forward to before it's even over, and when July arrives, we realize it doesn't last forever.
But from ice cream to Harry Potter, filmmaking, juggling, and more, you can make the most of summer's second half with events from the Roselle Public Library District!
Starting Tuesday, July 12, 2-4P, tomorrow's movie directors can practice their talents with Filmmaking Workshop, a three-part series focusing on planning the story, shooting the video, and editing the final masterpiece. You can register for one, two, or all three sessions by visiting our online calendar, calling 630.529.1641 ext. *222, or stopping by the Circulation Desk. Space is limited. Participants are encouraged to register for all three sessions (Tuesdays, July 12, 19, and 26, 2-4P).
Wednesdays aren't left out, either. Join Teen Animanga on Wednesday, July 13, 4:30-6P to watch new anime, read new manga, and discuss. Refreshments served. No registration required; drop-ins welcome.
Filmmaking and storytelling aren't the only creative skills on display this month; so is juggling! Juggler, stilt-walker, and balloon artist Jason Kollum will be here to perform "See the Show! Be a Pro!" on Thursday, July 14, 1-2P. Spinning balls, giant beanbag chairs, and more will be flying through the air, and Jason will teach you how to be a rock star juggler!
Registration is required for this program. Space is limited. Visit our online calendar, call 630.529.1641 ext. *351, or stop by the Ask Me Desk in Youth Services.
Saturday, July 16, 12-2P brings a family favorite back to the library: Ice Cream Social!
Enjoy an afternoon of face painting, prizes, and a free ice cream sundae! Play life-sized Candyland and participate in other kid-friendly activities. Get in and get social! All ages welcome. No registration required.
So Ice Cream Social is about traveling around the library. But the evening of Tuesday, July 26, 7-8P is about traveling around the country!
World traveler Ralph Danielsen is back to present Magnificent Alaska Travelog, a photographic experience chronicling his drive across every paved highway in the 49th state. You'll see majestic mountains, glaciers, wildlife, and coastal fishing towns, plus explore the Arctic Circle, see the effects of the midnight sun, witness native culture, and learn about the Alaskan oil pipeline.
Let's back up a little and talk about grandparents: Grandparents Got Game!, that is! Everyone can spend their summer afternoons at this fun family program, held each Wednesday through August 10 in the Meeting Rooms, 1:30-3P.
Each session has a different theme, like Science Day on Wednesday, July 13, "Rockin" Games on Wednesday, July 20, and Duct, Duct, Goose! on Wednesday, July 27. No registration required.
On Sunday, July 24, 2-4P, the Board of Trustees of the Roselle Public Library District invites the public to join them in welcoming Samantha Millsap to the position of Executive Director with an Open House Reception in the library atrium. Hors d'oeuvres and live entertainment will be provided.
You may have heard J.K. Rowling is coming out with an eighth book in the Harry Potter universe: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Set 19 years after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Cursed Child finds Harry as "an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children." It also follows one of Harry's sons, Albus, who "must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted."
This book is actually a script book for a play of the same name, debuting onstage in London's West End on July 30. To celebrate, we're hosting a Harry Potter Party on Monday, July 25, 2:30-3:30P, where you'll get sorted into a house, make a magical craft, and play games!
Registration for Harry Potter Party opens tomorrow, July 11. Visit our online calendar, call 630.529.1641 ext. *222, or stop by the Circulation Desk. Recommended for grades 6 through 12.
Summer may be going fast, but it's not over yet! Seize the summer with the Roselle Public Library District!
