January at the Roselle Public Library District
With the turn of the new year comes a start almost as pure as snow. Now is the time when change is made: new commitments, new promises, new lessons, new resolutions.
Our programs this month run from the familiar to the fresh, but always local and personal. Have tea with the Rose Queen. Get healthier naturally. And learn about the life of America's first Treasury secretary: Alexander Hamilton. Welcome to January at the Roselle Public Library District.
We start with an afternoon of creating your own tiara, playing games, dining on delicious desserts, and meeting local royalty at Rose Queen Tea, January 14, 2-3:30P. Get to know the Rose Queen as you share a cup of tea! For children in kindergarten through sixth grade. Registration is required through our online calendar or by phone at 630.529.1641, ext. *351.
Then learn how to be an awesome babysitter in one weekend with Babysitter Training Workshop, January 21 (12-4:30P) and January 22 (1-4:30P). During this two-day course, learn the rules, lessons, and techniques you need to become a responsible babysitter. Bring a doll or stuffed animal to practice on each session. For ages 10 through 16. $5 due at registration. Registration is available in-person only at the Circulation Desk and class size is limited.
Don't miss your shot on January 22, 1:30-3P to learn about the man everyone's singing about: the United States' first Treasury Secretary, Alexander Hamilton. After being out of the limelight for more than 200 years, he's taken center stage again with the help of creative genius Lin-Manuel Miranda.
But who was the man behind our modern attention? Historian Jim Gibbons examines the roller coaster life of one of America’s forgotten founding fathers and explores Hamilton’s legacy in the 21st century.
Registration for Life of Alexander Hamilton is required through our online calendar or by phone at 630.529.1641, ext. *222.
With sweet treats and not many chances to move your feet, we know it can be hard to stay healthy in the winter. During Get Healthier in a Simple Natural Way at 7P, January 23, experience how some basic principles of energy can dramatically improve the way we feel and put us back in control of our lives. Registration is required through our online calendar or by phone at 630.529.1641, ext. *222.
A few days later, color away those winter blues with Coloring at the Library!, January 26, 1:30-3P. We'll provide light refreshments, coloring pages, and pencils, but feel free to bring your own supplies, too. Registration is required through our online calendar or by phone at 630.529.1641, ext. *222.
Then close out the month with pianist and singer Mike Archer during Musical Sunday, January 29, 1:30-3P. He'll perform well-known theme songs from popular movies and shows, from Oscar-winning masterpieces to jingles. You can also enjoy coffee, tea, and cookies in the atrium. No registration required.
So welcome to January, and welcome to 2017. It's time for a new beginning.
