Summer Reading Book Review - The Milk Lady of Bangalore

Book Title: The Milk Lady of Bangalore

Author: Shoba Narayan

Reviewed By: Pam D.

Shoba Narayan left India to go to college in the United States. After college she met and married a man that also left India to go to college. They had 2 girls and decided to immigrate back to India. On the corner is the Milk Lady that sells milk while she milks her cows. An unusual friendship develops between the author and the milk lady.

Why I Picked it Up: It was recommended to me by a library staff member. She knew I like books about India, both their culture and the people. The cover art for the book has a picture of a cow on it, very unusual and eye catching.

Why I Finished It: I did not know where this memoir would take me. I felt I was there with the author on her journey back to her homeland. I wanted to know what happened to the milk lady and her family. The cow is sacred in India and the author explained the traditions and reasons for this.

I’d Give this Book To: I would recommend it to people who are interested in different cultures.
